LEARN THE SKILLS TO TEACH THE SKILLS.
At Mountain Bike Skills (MBS) clinics, coaches learn the progressive steps needed to teach anyone both basic and advanced mountain biking skills. Coaches also learn about experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different learning styles, and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders. Please bring your bike and appropriate riding gear for the weather. Taught by the MCA Demo Team.
MBS 1: Essentials
Coaches learn the progressive steps needed to teach both basic and advanced mountain biking skills, experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different learning styles and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders.
MBS 1: Essentials completion is required for MCA Coach License Levels 2 and 3.
MBS 2: Intermediate
Coaches build on skills learned in MBS 101 and then provide additional resources for a coach to manage advanced practice activities for teams.
Prerequisites for the class:
- MBS 1: Essentials must be completed prior to attending MBS 2: Intermediate
- Classes are open to coaches (new and returning) affiliated with the MCA only.
- Registration must be completed.
MBS 3: Advanced
Coaches build on skills learned in MBS 2: Intermediate and advanced mountain bike handling techniques.
Coaches are the backbone of our program and we are dedicated to ensuring they have the support and education to be successful in their roles. The purpose of the MCA Coach License Program is to offer comprehensive training to coaches so that they are equipped to provide quality programming to student-athletes that meets national standards and best practices while developing strong mind, body and character.
FIRE: Females Improving Riding Experiences | May 31, 9:00am-12:00pm | Carver Lake Park
- Are you a mom or a new adult female cyclist interested in volunteering with your MCA GRRLS team but feel you lack the necessary skills?
- Are you currently a volunteer on a team and aspire to lead a girls’ team/pod?
The purpose of the MCA GRRLS FIRE Camp is to empower women to discover their superpower and evolve into confident ride leaders, assistant coaches, and coaches.
During our session, we’ll cover areas like overcoming fears, why have girls-only teams, running an effective girls’ team practice, and engaging in games that appeal to girls. No skills necessary, just a desire to learn and have fun. Your own bike and helmet are required.
Optional: Bring your lunch and partake in a Basic Bike Mechanics conversation from 12:15pm-1:15pm.
Want to learn even more? We will be offering Women Only MBS 1 in the afternoon!
